This article delves into the details of Millbrook Resort's golf courses, exploring their design, history, and the unique features that make them stand out.

The Courses

Millbrook Resort boasts two exceptional 18-hole golf courses, designed by renowned golf course architects: Sir Bob Charles, Greg Turner, and Scott Macpherson.

  • The Remarkables Course: This course, named after the stunning Remarkables mountain range, was originally designed by Sir Bob Charles and John Darby. It opened in 1992 and quickly gained recognition for its challenging layout and breathtaking scenery. In the mid-2000s, Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson renovated the course, adding bunkers and making subtle tweaks to enhance the playing experience. As of 2018, there were plans to expand the course with an additional 9 holes, allowing for different 18-hole combinations in a single day.

  • The Coronet Course: Officially launched in March 2022, the Coronet Course is a masterpiece crafted by Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson. This course features nine new holes integrated with nine holes from the original Remarkables course. The Coronet Course is characterized by its strategic layout, demanding shot-making, and stunning views from elevated tees. It has garnered significant acclaim, including the prestigious Golf Inc. Development of the Year award in 2023.

Both courses offer five different tee positions, catering to players of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, you'll find a challenging and enjoyable experience at Millbrook.

Queenstown offers a fantastic golfing experience year-round, but the best time to play is during the summer months, from November to February. During this period, Queenstown enjoys warm temperatures with an average high of 22°C (72°F) and plenty of sunshine. The days are also longer, providing ample time for enjoying the resort's amenities and exploring the surrounding area.

Millbrook's golf courses are renowned for their exceptional design and integration with the natural landscape. They are best described as a unique blend of "Parklands" and "Links" styles, offering a variety of natural hazards, including tussocks, streams, schist stone, trees, and buildings.

The Three Nines

Millbrook features three distinct nine-hole layouts: The Remarkables, The Arrow, and The Coronet. This allows for diverse playing experiences and combinations.

  • The Remarkables Nine: This nine, originally part of the course designed by Sir Bob Charles, retains the look and feel of the original layout. It features elevated tees and greens, taking advantage of the natural terrain.

  • The Arrow Nine: Based predominantly on the Bob Charles course with revisions by Turner and Macpherson, the Arrow nine contrasts with the Remarkables nine by offering predominantly flat terrain with no elevated tees or greens.

  • The Coronet Nine: Designed by Turner and Macpherson, this nine sits on higher ground than the original holes, making the most of the land and offering dramatic views. It presents a more strategic test with interesting land shapes and features.
