West Cliffs Ocean and Golf Resort: Luxury Meets Coastal Golf
West Cliffs Ocean and Golf Resort is located on the Silver Coast of Portugal, near the town of Óbidos. It's approximately an hour's drive north of Lisbon, with Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) being the nearest international airport, about 42 miles away.The West Cliffs Golf Links course is widely considered to be an excellent and challenging championship course, and has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the best in Continental Europe since its opening in June 2017. It was even elected the "World's Best New Course" in 2017.It's a pure links layout seamlessly integrated into the natural landscape, featuring stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every hole. The course is known for its dramatic setting amidst sand dunes and coastal vegetation. Golfers frequently comment on its challenging nature, particularly the undulating and fast greens, as well as the need for long carries off the tee. It offers five different tee boxes to accommodate various skill levels.The course was designed by Cynthia Dye ASGCA, a member of the renowned golf course architecture firm Dye Designs Group and niece of legendary architect Pete Dye. She focused on preserving the natural environment and integrating the course harmoniously with the existing terrain.

The golf course design process required a long term, careful study of the site conditions, characteristics and restrictions. The Dye team worked closely with the local government’s planning and engineering departments as well as several concerned national ministries. The design evolved through many reviews and exhaustive revisions to ensure a minimum disturbance of the environment and protection of the areas of existing drainage basins, dinosaur fossils and heritage pine trees.
